The Virginia Social Science Association is the oldest association of academics in Virginia.

We are comprised of scholars from multiple social disciplines.

We envision three main interrelated missions regarding teaching, research, and outreach:
  • Promoting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary work in the social sciences
  • Offering students, including undergraduates, opportunities for professional development in presenting their scholarship
  • Bringing together Virginia teachers of higher education
Annual membership is included in our conference registration fee.

The Virginia Social Science Journal (ISSN 0507-1305) is a refereed, annual journal published by the Virginia Social Science Association. The VSSJ editorial team welcomes manuscripts related to social sciences, business, economics, education, geography, history, and related topics. In 2026, we extend a special invitation for the submission of pedagogical research in the social sciences. ​ Authors include scholars from Virginia, the United States, and the international academy.
